Internship Spotlight: Hyde Samuel Wong Jr.

Name: Hyde Samuel Wong Jr.

Major/Minor: Economics

Class: Beta Delta

Company/Position: Formation Capital Group/Investment Banking Summer Analyst

What advice would you give to anyone searching for an internship?
Do not be afraid to apply for positions and companies that may seem out of reach. If it is something you genuinely are passionate about and are interested in doing, send out an application; it does not take a lot of time to write a cover letter, tidy up your resume, and hit submit. If you get rejected, at least you tried. If you hear back, you will be glad you took the time to apply.

What has been the most rewarding part about your internship?
I can directly see how my work affects the client. I have created multiple investor decks for companies to show potential investors in order to garner interest and hopefully, capital investment. One of the companies I made a deck for personally sent me an email thanking me after a terrific series A round of financing. This felt really good as I had spent over 30 hours on the deck.

What did you hope to gain from this internship?
I wanted to learn about the intricacies of investment banking and develop strong skills in financial modeling, cold calling, and staying composed in a high stress, high stakes environment.

What is your favorite aspect of Delta Sigma Pi that not many people know about?
My favorite part about Delta Sigma Pi is that I had the opportunity to meet individuals I would have not otherwise have met. My pledge brothers have become some of my closest friends at Davis. I couldn’t imagine Davis without Delta Sigma Pi.
